The space was initially dark with uneven surfaces, but the partially-exposed stone walls showed strong character. Our first challenge was to drastically increase the natural light despite the thick stone structures which we did by removing doors, using glass partitions, and implementing an open floor plan. The layout shifts gracefully between living, dining, and sleeping, all unified by an intelligently designed circulation axis. The stones have been exposed, sandblasted, and re-grouted for a harmonized look. Plastered surfaces received a lime wash for a soft texture. A custom openable glass roof illuminates the dining area, while our use of reflective materials, bleached timber floors, and industrial accents meld past and present with an aesthetic that is as refined as it is industrial and masculine. The challenge was to combine both spaces’ needs, aesthetic and practical, into a single venue. The commercial space has been divided in two zones, both visible from the street : •⁠ ⁠the laboratory / kitchen •⁠ ⁠the retail / dining room The laboratory is a fully-equipped production space. It is exposed to emphasize the patisserie’s craft and products. It has been famously associated with the Cannes Film Festival since 1946. The hotel went through a four-year full-renovation conducted by interior design Tristan Auer. Atelier UNDO and Martin Napoleoni were appointed to design and deliver a monumental sculptural chandelier for the hotel’s main staircase. Made out of steel frames and glass panels, the imposing sculpture is 6,5 m high and weighs 700 kg. The ice color effect is masterfully realized using specially laminated glass, which incorporates layers of opalescent colors and a frosted finish for a surrealist look. The design's overall geometry, cascading from the ceiling, resonates with the hotel's Art Deco heritage, infusing it with a contemporary and whimsical flair. The chandelier illuminates the staircase while being an intriguing and inviting object visible right from the main lobby. Despite its beauty, due to the period of construction, the original design was never fully completed. The corps de logis is asymetric due to construction rush, one wing is masonry raw and the horse house is incomplete. The castle is fully listed and is property of the same family since its construction.
